Shorefall – Robert Jackson Bennett

Foundryside was superb; Shorefall is merely quite good.

Shorefall has the usual disadvantages of a middle book. It falls between the first book, which gets most of the credit for the story’s originality, and the last book, which brings all the pieces together and ties them up. In this case it has the additional disadvantage that Bad Things Happen - and keep happening. An incredibly-powerful - but neither good nor wise - being has been resurrected. This being wishes to improve humanity, considers no price to high, and hasn’t learned much from experience. The main characters are outmatched, and their successes throughout the book amount to dodging disaster.

Worth reading, and I look forward to the third book of the trilogy.
