The Tufa have lived on earth for millenia since their exile. Now there might be a chance to return. Their efforts to decide how they feel about that - whether they will return if the can - constitutes the heart of the book.

The book doesn’t have much plot. The writing is careful, nuanced, and well-crafted - and it was an enjoyable read. But it wasn’t special the way “The Hum and the Shiver” was special. It felt as if the author had run out of things to write about the Tufa, and wanted to tell them goodbye.

If you’ve read the Tufa novels this far, you’ll want to read this one. If you haven’t read the earlier Tufa novels, this isn’t the place to start.
