Winter Lost – Patricia Briggs

I’ve been enjoying this series since its start, but “Winter Lost” was a weaker entry. In particular, the plotting was of the “dump on the protagonist until you run out of things to dump” school. Mercy is being harassed by the head vampire. She is semi-crippled by a hurt taken in the previous book. She is subject to panic attacks. Her half-brother shows up and he is unable to communicate because of a curse. One of Adam’s men has been killed. Adam and Mercy take flack from assorted fae. By the time we reach the main plot, the book feels more like a soap opera than a novel. The writing, as ever, is clever.
