Making Progress

In the first book, A Shadowed Awakening, we are introduced to Eunora and her oppressive home and family. A Dark Journey is more upbeat. Eunora is being sent into an exile of sorts, but she is also being freed to find her own way.

In a world where only a few have special skills and abilities, Eunora has been given extraordinary skills, some of the god-given. Unfortunately, most of the gods we encounter in this world are jerks. Most of their gifts are for the benefit of the giver, not the receiver. In this book Nora begins to develop and thrive despite that unfortunate circumstance, and it makes for good reading.

The author never makes a point of this, but the image of the protagonist improving herself in a world of physical, social, and emotional hazards changes when one realizes that Eunora is an eight-year-old who spends much of the book clutching a rag doll.
