This is a page-turner in the best sense: I read through book 1 over a single day, because it’s written in a way that draws the reader in and keeps the pages and chapters turning.

Then I started reading book 2 - and stopped after a few chapters. I realized that I didn’t care what happened to the protagonist. After a full book, the protagonist was still the sum of her stats, and the story was still a string of fight scenes.

A well-executed string.
